How Quickly Time Moves

Wow! Time is really moving quickly.  It's been almost a month since I've written in this blog.  Luckily, Nancy has been sending out her weekly emails.  It's Sunday night and our friends Scott and Nancy Waterfall just left.  They were here for dinner, conversation, and games.  

Since the last time I wrote, we've been in the Italian side of Switzerland.  Lugano and Ascano are beautiful places.  Karla Huber grew up in a small town near there.  Her family ran a hotel and restaurant.  They have renovated the restaurant into a family cabin and that's where we stayed.  Then we would hike or go places from there.  It was a wonderful few days.  There were six of us.  Peter and Karla Huber, Scott and Libby Murri, and Nancy and me.  We drove over Goddart's Pass which is a destination road for sports car enthusiasts.  It's super windy and fun to drive.  We ate on top of the pass.

We've also finished our closure "Lessons Learned" ERC report and sent it to Elder Cziesla.  He will tweek it and present it to the Area Presidency and then to Salt Lake and Elder Bednar.  We hope it will be helpful in other crises moving forward.

We went to a Stake sports and activity day.  We set up for Family night.  We went to Heidelberg with Helen and Lot Smith one weekend.  We had a zone conference where President and Sister DeFeo spoke to us.  We also set up tables that morning for the lunch after the devotional.  We had a DTA (Director of Temporal Affairs) transitional meeting where the presiding bishop of the church, Bishop Causse, came and announced two new DTAs for the Central Europe and North Europe Areas.  We went to dinner and the temple with other couples from the Area, and out for crepes and nuts with the Watsons afterwards at a street festival happening near the temple.

We've also been working hard at the office.

This has been a good week.  I borrowed a bike from a friend and Scott Waterfall borrowed a bike from another friend and we rode bikes to the office most days.  The ride took us through town and farmland, along rivers and rows of apartment buildings, on cobblestone roads and paved bike paths, down some slopes and up some slopes, and eventually to office or home where we sat in front of fans to cool off.  It felt good on my knees to ride. Nancy is speaking in church today.  She has prepared well and will do a good job.  She is a wonderful missionary who knows how to bring people together.  I'm sure she will get several hugs from several people after church.  She is still suffering from plantar fasciitis, but is working hard to help it improve.  She wears a foot brace to bed at night, stretches every morning, and rolls her foot on a specially designed ball....

Poland - Warsaw and Krakov

Remember to see Nancy's email for more detail.  Scroll down to see pictures.   Most of this week was spent in Poland.  We left on Monday morning and returned on Friday afternoon. We went to meet and train Elder and Sister Pope in person.  They are in Warsaw.  While in Warsaw we also visited with Elder and Sister Smith and we met and talked to Elder and Sister Baxter.  We went to a Chopin Concert in old town Warsaw with a group of senior missionaries.  We saw Eric Knap and met Elder Newinswander. The priority of this trip was to meet and train the Popes, but we also wanted to see and experience the Warsaw and Krakov chapels because they were key gathering areas for the member refugees from Ukraine, and we had spent a lot of time interacting with them through the ERC work we have been doing.   We needed to get back in time for a ward activity on Saturday.  The ward was having a self preparedness fair and we were responsible for the We...

Cars, cars, and more cars - Porsche and Mercedes Benz

I didn't realize how many brands Mercedes Benz is involved with.  The three points of the Mercedes Benz logo represent land, sea, and air. Remember the movie "Cars'?  Well, here's the real deal at the Porsche museum on Stuttgart. This is the underground parking garage. at the Porsche museum.  Lots of nice cars here too! It's been another great week.  We continue to connect with our couples across Europe, and they are outstanding missionaries.  We are so happy to be associated with them.  It seems that most of Europe takes their summer vacations very seriously.  As a result, the self-reliance courses are always lighter in the summer time, but the couples are finding many good things to keep them...
