Wiesbaden and Home

Remember, you can read Nancy's email letter that she sends out each week for more detail and better writing.  You can also skip to the bottom of this blog for pictures.

This has been another good, busy week.  The plan to help the member refugees coming across the border has now transitioned to real life.  Strong stakes have been matched with border branches, gathering centers have been set up, and communication hubs have been created.  Missionaries have been pulled from their normal duties, have moved to the gathering areas, and are helping to transport and transition refugees crossing the border.  The focus is on members and families and friends of members first, then anybody who needs help.  I told Nancy that we always hear people say that they'd like to be a fly on the wall.  Well, that's how we've been feeling.  It's been fascinating to see the behind the scenes work that goes on to make what is visible happen.  Along with our ERC (Emergency Response Council) work, we have continued to work with our Welfare and Self-Reliance missionaries.  We had a zoom meeting with all of them on Thursday.  They are awesome people doing awesome things.  We also continue to think about and support the Just Serve movement.  That one is a little tricky because platforms are different in different countries.  We will continue to work with that.

Yesterday (Saturday) we took some time and went to Wiesbaden.  We walked along the Rhine River, visited the Mainz Cathedral,  experienced a farmer's market, and ate at a little cafe'.  It was a nice day, and we enjoyed spending it together.  Gas is about $9 a gallon so we tried to stay close.  We also went grocery shopping, to Ikea, and to Hornblach (like Home Depot).  We had dinner at Ikea, and the swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes were great.

Nancy has had a bad cough for a long time now.  If it continues, we will see a doctor.

We have come to love our little apartment.  Here are some pictures:

Every morning and night we throw the windows open for five minutes to vent the apartment.  It is very fresh and birds are always singing.

the washer is in the bathroom.  We thought this was weird, but when we went to Ikea many of the bathroom displays all had washers in them.

This is our kitchen.  The dryer is in the kitchen.  Weird again, but pretty normal.  There is no dishwasher.

The dining area is in the living area. The sun always comes up just to the left of the building on the right.
